I always thought it was best to smile and then dust it on the roundest part of my cheeks. I’ve been doing it this way for years. And so has my baby sister (her boyfriend says the best time to bring up a tough topic is when she slaps on her favorite pink stuff—because she can’t not smile when she’s doing it). But apparently, we’re doing it wrong.
Is blush even a part of your daily makeup routine? At least that’s what Lancome makeup artist Andrew Sotomayor told me. And he seems to know what he’s doing—he’s constantly blushing up celebs like Piper Perabo, Olivia Wilde and Amber Tamblyn for big events. His theory: If you put your blush on your cheeks when you’re smiling, the minute you stop (and your cheeks sinks) all that pretty color is now sitting in the center of your face, accentuating nothing. His solution: Look at yourself in the mirror with your “normal” expression to get the color exactly where you need it.
Do you prefer powder or cream blush?
I tried it and he’s totally right. But then I got to thinking… I want my “normal” expression to always be happy. So if knowing that I put my blush on while smiling forces me to smile more, well so be it.
How do you put on your blush? Do you grin like an idiot the way I do?
